'Holy man' beaten up for sexual assault

A self-proclaimed holy man, who tried to sexually assault a woman, was beaten up by furious villagers until he fainted, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The man, identified as Sitthappa Sri, had been conducting regular prayers and ceremonies for the villagers in Bangalore, India.

On the day of the incident, he had gone to the woman's house to carry out cleansing rituals.

As she was alone at the time, he attempted to have sex with her.

The shocked woman managed to get away and informed her neighbours about it.

The villagers caught the attacker and tied him to a utility pole.

They kept hitting him with weapons and slippers until he passed out.

Police who were informed about the situation arrived at the scene later and nabbed the man before things got out of hand.

Apparently, the man admitted to his misdeeds during a police interrogation.
