PETALING JAYA - Honda Malaysia will recall almost 144,000 vehicles to replace faulty driver and passenger airbag inflators.

The company said in a statement that the move was a precautionary exercise for its City (2006 to 2012), Civic (2006 to 2011), Civic Hybrid (2007 to 2011), CR-V (2007 to 2011), Insight (2011 to 2012), Jazz (2009 to 2012) and Stream (2007 to 2012) models. In May, a total of 87,182 units were recalled for a precautionary update.

"Honda Malaysia is taking this proactive measure to ensure customer safety and deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to all customers. This precautionary effort is to enable the replacement of the driver front airbag inflator with newly produced inflators," it said yesterday.

The company added that all its current selling models were not affected. It will be notifying all affected customers via letters, which will include details of the product update.

"Honda Malaysia continues to urge owners of Honda vehicles affected by the airbag inflator product updates to get their vehicles checked and parts replaced at any authorised Honda dealers as soon as possible upon receipt of the notification letter."

The company added that all costs of parts and labour would be borne by Honda Malaysia.

Honda owners can check their vehicle's product update status by calling 1-800-88-2020, logging on to www.honda.com.my or visiting any authorised Honda dealer.
