KOTA KINABALU: A 39-year-old housewife was jailed a total of 36 years for preying on elderly women and stealing from them.
Jubairah Leonsul, 39, pleaded guilty to four charges of cheating and six charges of theft.
She was jailed 24 months each for for the cheating offences and 18 months each for the thefts.
The jail terms are to run consecutively.
Jubairah was arrested at her home in Taman Mesra, Sandakan, at 9pm on March 1.
Among the stolen items recovered were mobile phones, power banks, memory cards, handbags, purses, watches, fashion accessories, credit cards, supermarket membership cards, ATM cards, an Indonesian passport, a birth certificate and pawn shop receipts.
Jubairah's modus operandi was to approach the elderly women and, gain their trust before stealing their belongings.
Her victims were nine elderly women and another female. She stole cash and valuables worth a total of RM23,000 (S$8500).
The crimes were committed between May 27, 2013 and Jan 22 this year in Bandar Ramai Ramai, Jalan Leila, Batu Sapi, Mile 4, Bandar Kim Fung and Bandar Indah, among others.
