SINGAPORE - Chinese communities around the world are preparing to usher in the year of the sheep. With Chinese New Year coming soon, many are looking forward to reunions with family and friends and pigging out on all the good food.
But how much do people actually know about Chinese New Year? SPH Razor recently went to the streets to find out.
Questions ranged from the purpose of the mirror on the lion's head in lion dances, to guessing what is and is not a traditional dragon dance move.
Nearly everyone was able to name the animals of the Chinese zodiac in order: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
But while we all love to "lo hei", quite a few people did not know the ingredients in a traditional "yu sheng", with some making wild guesses with items like broccoli and sea cucumber.
