Husband rapes, wife abuses

SARAWAK - Her husband raped a 13-year-old girl in front of their 11-year-old son.

Instead of reporting the matter to the police, the woman slapped the victim, stripped her naked and pressed a cigarette butt on her shoulder and ear.

Emok Sulok, 42, told the magistrate's court in the Malaysian state of Sarawak yesterday that she had assaulted the victim as she was angry that the teenager had sex with her husband, The Star reported.

But the court did not accept her reason and sentenced her to two years in jail.

In her mitigation before sentencing, Emok pleaded for leniency saying that she had to look after the children.

The victim was allegedly raped by the woman's husband at about 6pm on June 18. The act was witnessed by the rapist's son, who reported the matter to his mother.

The next day, Emok summoned the victim to her house. Her neighbour then asked why she was cutting and shaving the victim's hair. Emok replied that she was angry that the victim had sex with her husband.

She then forcibly took the girl's clothes off and ordered the victim to stand naked under the sun.

Not satisfied, she slapped the girl and tried to burn her shoulder and ear with a cigarette butt.

The victim, who said she did not fight back because she feared for her safety, told her brother who reported the matter to the police.

Police arrested Emok and her husband, 51, the next day.

The victim and her brother had been living with Emok's family for about two months after being disowned by their parents.

The man has been released on bail pending a chemistry report before being charged with statutory rape.
