Indonesian army chief makes introductory visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) General (GEN) Budiman called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this morning.

As part of his introductory visit to Singapore from October 28 to 30,  GEN Budiman also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng and Chief of Army Major-General (MG) Ravinder Singh earlier today after inspecting a Guard-of-Honour.

Both sides reaffirmed the close professional cooperation between the two armies and reiterated their mutual commitment to continue to bolster defence ties.

Yesterday, GEN Budiman also co-officiated the closing ceremony of Exercise Safkar Indopura, an annual bilateral exercise between the Singapore Army and TNI-AD, with MG Ravinder Singh on October 29, and visited Headquarters Armour at Sungei Gedong Camp.

Hosted by Singapore this year, the brigade-level exercise involves about 600 Singapore Armed Forces personnel from the Headquarters 3rd Singapore Infantry Brigade and 6th Singapore Infantry Regiment, as well as about 250 TNI-AD personnel from the 13th Infantry Brigade, 323rd Raider Battalion and 201st Mechanised Battalion of the TNI-AD's Strategic Reserve Command (KOSTRAD).

This year's Safkar Indopura was also the Silver Jubilee of the exercise.

GEN Budiman's introductory visit underscores the strong and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and Indonesia, Mindef said.

The Singapore Army and the TNI-AD have exercised regularly together and also engage in a wide range of other bilateral activities, including visits, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses.

These interactions have enhanced the two armies' interoperability as well as the friendship and mutual understanding between their personnel, the Ministry added.
