 Indonesian cops arrested for drug possession

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Police's narcotics directorate arrested five police officers last week, one of whom is a member of the police's drug division, for drug possession.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul confirmed the arrests on Saturday and said the cases were "still under police investigation".

Last Wednesday, the Jakarta Police's narcotics division, led by Comr.

Sujadi, raided a rented house in South Gandaria, South Jakarta, and arrested three officers from the South Jakarta Police along with a staff member from a private television company.

The suspects were identified as Second Brig. Nurhidayat, First Brig. Susanto, Adj. Second Insp. Sukandar and Heri Susanto. The police also confiscated two grams of methamphetamine, electronic scales and a glass pipe.

On Thursday, the team arrested Second Insp. Andri Agus Krismantoro, a member of the National Police's security and intelligence unit, in Fatmawati, South Jakarta, and seized a total of 15 grams of methamphetamine in nine ziplock bags, along with electronic scales and a bong.

Later on Friday, the team arrested Chief Brig. Sudirman, a member of the West Jakarta Police's narcotics unit, in a car in a hotel parking lot in West Jakarta and confiscated 7,457 ecstasy pills and more than 700 grams of methamphetamine.

In his statement to the police, Sudirman claimed the drugs belonged to a man identified only as A and said he was only in charge of the sale.
