JB gang which broke into S'pore homes held

The gang had broken into homes in Singapore and Johor Baru.

They also stole a car from one of the homes here.

One of the gang members even wore a wig to disguise himself while robbing homes.

The gang was busted when eight people, including the man who allegedly used the wig, were arrested in a series of raids in Johor Baru on Monday.

Police seized the hairpiece, along with four knives, four modified Allen keys and a parang from the gang, The Star reported.

Six vehicles were reported to have been stolen from the homes.

The police have so far recovered a Volkswagen stolen from Singapore and a Proton Perdana in Johor Baru.

Johor police chief Senior Deputy Commissioner Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said apart from the two cars, the police also recovered 15 wristwatches, 14 mobile phones and other stolen items.

REMANDED

All the suspects, aged 23 to 35, had previous criminal records and had been remanded for questioning until Saturday.

Mr Mohd Mokhtar said the group had been active in the area for about a month and was involved in other cases.

In another case, a 33-year-old suspect who had a stolen Singapore work permit on him was held in Taman Sentosa, Johor Baru.

Initial investigations found he was wanted for at least 15 break-ins and car thefts.
