SINGAPORE - Three people suffered minor injuries on Wednesday after a portion of the ceiling at Jem gave way.
Mr Douglas Gan, 30, was on the fourth floor with his girlfriend at about 10pm when he heard a loud sound.
About two minutes later, as the entrepreneur was waiting for his girlfriend outside the toilets, he heard another thunderous noise, like something was collapsing.
He then looked over the railings and saw many people on the first and second storeys running and shouting.
"I heard a guy shout: 'Ma, quickly run!'," he said, adding that shop shutters were coming down very swiftly on all the four floors.
"We were wondering why everybody was running away while the security guards were running towards the noise," Mr Gan said.
He saw that a portion of the ceiling near the Robinsons department store had collapsed, affecting six to eight shop units.
