Jobless man and brother fined for assaulting bride and lover

KUALA LUMPUR - An unemployed man, whose wife eloped with another man 10 days after they got married, was so enraged that he sought them out and beat them up.

Pleading guilty to causing serious injuries, Nurhaqiqi Nur Salam, 23, said he was so furious after finding out about his wife's affair that he brought his younger brother Abdur Rahman, 21, along and barged into a house in Wangsa Maju, punched and beat up his wife Nur Amira Roslan, 23, and Mohamad Hasbullah Mohamad Kamal, 25.

"I tried to contact my wife but to no avail. After asking around, my friends told me where she was," said Nurhaqiqi in mitigation before magistrate Nurul'Ain Abdul Rahim meted out sentences against him and his younger brother, a maintenance worker, yesterday.

The brothers were jointly charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with causing serious injuries to Nur Amira and Mohamad Hasbullah four days ago. They pleaded guilty to the charges.

The offences were committed at a house in Jalan Desa Rejang 10, Wangsa Maju, at about 11pm on Sept 29.

Nurul'Ain advised the brothers not to get physically aggressive but to do things according to the law.

"Look where you have ended up after beating up people," the magistrate told the brothers.

She fined Nurhaqiqi RM400, in default four months' jail, while Abdur Rahman was fined RM300 in default three months jail.
