Joining in the fun at N-Day sports carnival

SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong teaming up with six-year-old Lim Qi Jun on Saturday morning to play a recycling game - picking out plastics and paper from trash as quickly as possible.

Mr Lee was the guest of honour at a National Day sports carnival at Hougang Stadium, which was attended by 2,000 pre-schoolers and their families from his ward of Ang Mo Kio GRC.

He took part in a mock National Day Parade at the start of the carnival, where he reviewed a march-past of a contingent of flag-waving pre-schoolers and inspected the children after they formed up into lines to sing the National Anthem and recite the Pledge.

He then painted a section of a 10m-long batik cloth, which is part of Paint With One Heart, a nationwide community engagement project by the People's Association.

Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Yeo Guat Kwang, who spearheaded the organisation of the carnival, said that the event was to get residents involved in National Day celebrations in ways other than the usual dinners that are held in constituencies.
