Joseph Schooling sets new record at FINA World Championships

SINGAPORE - National swimmer Joseph Schooling has clocked the fifth fastest timing at the men's 50m butterfly heats for the FINA World Championships.

Channel NewsAsia reported that Schooling finished fifth out of 80 with a timing of 23.40 seconds during the heats in Kazan, Russia. His timing is also a new national record, nine seconds faster than his personal best at this year's SEA Games.

He will advance to the semi-finals which will take place tonight (Aug 2) at 11pm.

Schooling's promising performance in the heats raises Singapore's hopes of landing a first ever medal at the championships.
