Karaoke outing ends in fatal drunken brawl

PETALING JAYA- A karaoke outing ended in bloodshed when a college student stabbed his friend to death in a drunken brawl with knives and baseball bats in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh.

The night began innocently enough, with eight youths believed to be gang members jiving to the beat and enjoying their drinks on the second floor of a karaoke-cum-snooker centre along Jalan Kampung at about 11pm on Saturday.

"A scuffle broke out in the karaoke room among the drunk men. Two female workers tried to break up the fight and some of the men ran downstairs and left the premises.

"They later returned with weapons like baseball bats and another fight ensued just outside the entertainment centre," said Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Junaidi Bujang.

He said the clash was violent with others sustaining serious injuries on their faces.

CCTV images showed Mohd Sharul Ali, 22, swinging his arms around in a drunken frenzy when one of the attackers came up from behind and stabbed him on the right side of his neck with what appeared to be a folded knife.

Mohd Sharul, who was unemployed, was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital by two friends but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Just then, a police patrol squad responding to a call from the entertainment centre arrested the 19-year-old attacker and his 21-year-old brother at the scene.

Police are still on the lookout for another three youths involved in the brawl.

"We have not found the murder weapon. The suspect claimed that he wouldn't do such a thing because he was a college student," said Supt Junaidi, adding that the murder had been captured on camera. Both men are being remanded until Sept 27.
