KULAIJAYA - L/Kpl Mohd Azuan Abdullah, who was killed while pursuing criminals on Monday, was still in the midst of preparing the hantaran (bridal gifts) for his wedding this Sunday.

His devastated 53-year-old mother Afidah Ehsan said that Mohd Azuan, 25, had expressed his intention of preparing and decorating the gifts himself.

"I was shocked when he told me that he wanted to personally prepare the bridal gifts for his future wife and he seemed so excited about it."

"He was close to finishing the preparations for all seven trays of the hantaran but now all that's left are memories of him," she said in between sobs after the burial ceremony here yesterday.

Afidah said her third child was a responsible, soft-spoken, good son who rarely fought with other siblings.

Hundreds of relatives, friends and colleagues turned up at the burial ceremony in Batu 23 Muslim Cemetery to bid farewell to the brave and dedicated officer.

Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ismail Yatim described it as a great loss to the force.

In an unrelated case in Nusajaya, police have arrested a person believed to be the driver who rammed through a police roadblock in Bukit Indah on Saturday.

Nusajaya OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamed said the suspect, in his early 20s, was arrested near Plaza Tun Aminah in Skudai at 10.30pm on Sunday.

It was earlier reported that police were on the hunt for the driver of a black Toyota Altis who fled after ramming into a police roadblock near Horizon Hills in Bukit Indah at 7am on Saturday.

Five policemen managed to dodge the oncoming car and escaped unhurt.

The suspect's car was later found in front of a row of shops in Bukit Indah several hours before he was arrested.
