Last hurrah at Marina Bay?

The Marina Bay Floating Platform will host its last National Day Parade (NDP) this year, "for at least a few years to come", said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on his Facebook page yesterday.

Next year's NDP will move to the Padang, and, the following year, to the new National Stadium, added Dr Ng.

Noting that Marina Bay has been a "dream backdrop" for air, land and sea displays, he said the bayside venue has "exceeded all expectations".

The NDP has been held at the floating platform since 2007, except in 2010, when the parade was held at the Padang.

While Singaporeans should look forward to future NDP shows at the National Stadium, Dr Ng said: "But if truth be told, I will miss the Marina Bay setting."
