Let smokers be youth trainers - but set rules

I welcome Mr Delane Lim's suggestion ("Engage only non-smokers as youth trainers"; Monday), but would like to propose a tweak.

Smokers should be allowed to apply to be youth trainers, provided they undertake not to smoke while on duty or on the work premises at all times, including during breaks.

Those caught flouting this rule should face disciplinary action or even immediate dismissal.

Allowing smokers to apply for such jobs will eliminate discrimination and send a clear signal that smokers are not marginalised if they are willing to curb their habit.
