 Lim Hng Kiang to attend ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting in Myanmar

SINGAPORE - Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang will attend the 46th ASEAN Economic Ministers' (AEM) Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from August 25 to 28.

He will also be attending the 12th ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Council Meeting and the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) there.

At the AEM and AEC Council Meetings, ASEAN Economic Ministers will discuss the progress of regional economic integration initiatives, the continued work towards an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015, as well as the vision for AEC post-2015.

The 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the RCEP will discuss the progress of negotiations on the wider regional agreement involving ASEAN and its Free Trade Agreement Partners of Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand.

ASEAN Economic Ministers will also meet their counterparts from Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States to discuss ways to deepen economic relations, including areas relating to ASEAN's free trade agreements.

While in Nay Pyi Taw, the ASEAN Economic Ministers will also meet private sector representatives from the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, the East Asia Business Council, the US-ASEAN Business Council and the EU-ASEAN Business Council.

The 1st Public-Private Dialogue on New Industries and the 2nd ASEAN-US Business Summit will be held on the sidelines of the main AEM Meeting.

Mr Lim will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
