Little India Riot: DPM Teo visits SCDF officers

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and MP for Sembawang GRC Mr Vikram Nair met with the SCDF officers who had responded to the Little India riot on Thursday afternoon at the Marina Bay Fire Station.

Twelve SCDF personnel, including two female officers, were injured when the unruly mob attacked them as they were carrying out their duties at the Dec 8 riots. All officers have since recovered from their injuries.

DPM Teo expressed his appreciation to more than 60 emergency responders, primarily paramedics and fire-fighters, who provided medical assistance and evacuation, and put out the fires during the incident.

Commending the SCDF officers, DPM Teo said: "Your mission is to help others and save lives.

"Even in a very challenging situation, you carried out your duty because you knew that there were people who needed help.

"You have shown a strong sense of duty and purpose, and dedication to your mission."
