Little India: Worshippers return to temple

Nearly two months after the Little India riot, life has changed for foreign workers who spend their days off there, as well as residents and businesses.

Devotees of Shree Lakshminarayan Temple seem to be returning and they give their take on the liquor clean-up in the area. Here's the full transcript from a RazorTV video: 

"I've been coming here since I was 6 or 7 years-old since the temple was newly made," said Ms Geeta Singh, devotee of Shree Lakshminarayan Temple. "It has progressed a lot. A lot of difference right now."

Dharmender Prashad, Assistant Secretary of Shree Lakshminarayan Temple told RazorTV: "Previously the situation here was quite tough. On weekends and on Sundays, shops behind (the temple) were selling liquor on the streets, so our devotees were not able to come to the temple anytime in the evenings or on public holidays."

Ms Singh said: "(Foreign workers) will sit and they will drink when we had this liquor shop here. And they will just puke all over the shoes and slippers. And we were so afraid of going there and asking them to move. They can sometimes get very violent.

"It is good that they have moved this liquor shop. Right now, I think it is much better and much cleaner," she added.

Mr Prashad said: "After the clean-up, now we see about 50-80 people already coming on Sundays because they know they can access the temple. They can come, they can use the facilities here. And I believe this clean-up has been very good for the temple."

"We feel better when we walk through the temple right now. Previously, we had to bypass them," said Ms Singh.
