Loan shark suspect nabbed in 10 minutes

Police arrested a man suspected of being involved in loan shark activities within 10 minutes of being informed.

The police were alerted to a paint-splashed front door and loan shark graffiti at Jurong East Street 24 at about 2.50am on Tuesday.

With the help of footage from police cameras in the area, they arrested a 21-year-old man by about 3am, police said in a statement.

The man is believed to have helped loan shark syndicates carry out a series of loan shark harassment activities in several locations including Jurong West, Choa Chu Kang and Woodlands.

A mobile phone, a sling bag, a marker, six pieces of paper with details, six cans of paint and six plastic bags were found on him when he was arrested.

If convicted of loan shark harassment, he faces a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, a mandatory jail term of up to five years, and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
