Major emergency exercise to be conducted at Sports Hub this Saturday
Two cars burst into flames outside the Singapore Sports Hub on April 3-, 2015 in a staged terror attack to test the response of the Republic’s emergency services. It was part of a rehearsal for Exercise Northstar 9, in which more than 15 national agencies will display their coordination and readiness in the face of major crises.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the Singapore Police Force, and other government agencies will be conducting Exercise Northstar 9 at the Singapore Sports Hub this Saturday.

The exercise will also be extended to the nearby Kallang Wave Mall and Stadium MRT station. It will start at 12.30pm and end at around 3pm, the SCDF said in a statement today.

Exercise Northstar is a series of exercises introduced in 1997 to test and validate a multi-agency emergency response to a major incident. It also serves to raise awareness of the whole-of-government response framework that has been put in place to safeguard Singapore's national security.

About 600 personnel and 60 emergency and supporting vehicles will be participating in the exercise this Saturday.

Fire simulation with loud explosions, smoke, and the firing of blanks will be used.

Operational vehicles participating in the exercise will have their beacon lights turned on to alert motorists. Signage will be placed within the exercise vicinity to inform members of the public.
