Making Singapore an outstanding country

SINGAPORE - A Municipal Services Office will be set up to get different public agencies to work more closely together, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

It will help serve residents in a more seamless way, especially when responsibilities are split across public bodies. It is part of making Singapore an "outstanding city" that is planned and run well, he said.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu will oversee the new office, which will be under the Ministry of National Development and coordinate multiple agencies such as the Land Transport Authority, PUB, National Environment Agency and the National Parks Board.

Mr Lee shared a story by South West District Mayor Low Yen Ling who found three agencies in charge of cleaning different parts of a walkway near Bukit Gombak MRT station, yet a fishball stick still littered the ground after more than a day.

He also outlined plans for a more vibrant Jurong. These include an expanded Jurong Lake Gardens which will combine the existing Chinese and Japanese gardens and Jurong Lake Park.
