Malaysia gang leader held after car chase

KUALA LUMPUR - Police yesterday shot and wounded the leader of a notorious gang high on the wanted list after a 13-hour chase and search.

The leader of the Vinod Gang was arrested at 9.30am in Taman Titiwangsa here after being spotted at 8.30pm in Selayang the previous day and leading police on a high-speed chase up the Karak Highway to Genting Sempah and then back again to the Federal capital, where he fled on foot after hitting a dead end.

He was found hiding in the rear compound of a house after a search.

Also arrested was a woman accomplice of the leader of the gang wanted for a number of armed robberies and vehicle thefts.

City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the couple had initially been spotted by police attempting a robbery in Selayang.

The man was wounded in the right shoulder and waist and was sent for treatment at the Selayang Hospital, where he is currently warded. His 21-year-old accomplice was taken to the Gombak police headquarters.
