Malaysian cops arrest two over wake shooting

BUTTERWORTH, Penang - Police picked up two men in connection with a shooting during a wake at a house in Kampung Selamat, Tasek Gelugor, near here recently.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said one suspect, in his 30s, was detained in Padang Serai, Kedah, at about 4pm on Friday, while the other suspect, who is in his 20s, was arrested in Kampung Selamat at about 7.30pm the same day.

"One of the suspects has criminal record involving drug and gambling cases," ACP Abdul Rahman said during a police dinner in Kepala Batas on Friday.

He said the suspects have been remanded for seven days.

It was reported that some 100 people were present at the wake when a gunman fired several shots at Ng Chiau Lin, 38, and Lee Wooi Shong, 34, at about 10.45pm on Monday.

Lee, who was shot twice in the head, died at Kepala Batas Hospital at about 2.20am the next day.

Ng was hit in the left hand and admitted to a private hospital in Butterworth.
