KUALA LUMPUR - Police are hunting for the person who grievously hurt two good friends by splashing them with acid.

Nurul Umira Azali and Nur Farziana Hussein Hasnor Harry, both 22, have been disfigured after they were attacked at their condominium's parking lot in Taman Setapak Indah Jaya, Setapak on Aug 24.

The case was being investigated by the police, but the process was made difficult by the lack of closed circuit television (CCTV) at the scene, said Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif.

"There was no CCTV and the victims did not recognise their assailant.

"The women had no problems with anyone," he said.

At a press conference yesterday, Nur Farziana described how their lives had taken a turn for the worse.

"We are too afraid to leave our house.

"We hope the police will catch the culprit as soon as possible," she said.

The two women are also seeking financial assistance for their follow-up treatments and operations at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) as they are not able to support themselves due to their injuries.

Nur Farziana suffered serious injury to her face, head, eyes and hand, making her unable to shut her eyelids completely despite undergoing an operation.

Nurul Umira suffered burns and cannot stretch her left arm or neck due to the scars.

"We have no enemies that we could think of or the reason for the attack, so how could the attacker be so cruel and splash acid on us," said Nurul Umira.

She added that they had spent around RM400 (S$133) a month on medical treatment.

They have also been using olive oil and medicated cream on their scars, and have also been given counselling.

MCA Public Service and Complaints Department chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong said MCA would be raising funds for both victims aside from the additional RM2,000 his department had already donated to the victims.

Those wishing to contribute can write a cheque payable to MCA Public Service Department, 7th Floor, Wisma MCA, 163, Jalan Ampang, 50450 KL.

The names of both Nur Farziana and Nurul Umira should be written at the back of the cheque.
