Malaysian lorry driver claims trial to outraging modesty charge

GEORGE TOWN - A lorry driver claimed trial at a magistrate's court here to outraging the modesty of an eight-year-old girl.

Khoo Lai Hin, 57, from Batu Maung, is alleged to have inserted his finger into the private part of the girl at an apartment in Taman Gembira, Batu Maung between 10am and 12.05pm on Oct 8.

He is charged under Section 377CA of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 20 years' jail term and a possible whipping upon conviction.

Lawyer S. Yagoo, who represented Khoo, requested bail, citing that his client needed to fend for his family.

DPP S. Selvaranjini urged the court not to grant bail for safety reasons as the accused was a neighbour of the victim's family.

Magistrate Umma Devi Loganathan denied bail and fixed Dec 16 for next mention pending DNA and medical reports and submission of documents.
