The body of a man was found floating in the Singapore River off Collyer Quay yesterday afternoon.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers retrieved the body of the unidentified man, who was in his 40s, soon after 3pm.

The man is believed to have fallen into the water on Monday night.

An SCDF spokesman told The New Paper that they were alerted to the incident at 11.53pm on Monday by a member of the public.

A rescue and recovery effort was then launched.

No one TNP spoke to at Collyer Quay saw the incident but a cleaner at Customs House said his colleagues had seen the man before he fell.

They had noticed that the man looked drunk and was walking unsteadily, said the cleaner, who declined to be named.

The police said they were informed of the incident at 12.05am yesterday. The case has been classified as an unnatural death and they are investigating.
