Man, 44, suspected of stealing $200,000 luxury watch & cash

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 44-year-old man suspected to be involved in a case of Theft in Dwelling reported at a hotel along Orange Grove Road.

In a media statement, the police said they were notified on Sep 2 at 3.33pm by a 77-year-old man that his luxury wrist watch valued at about $200,000 was missing from a locker at the hotel. He added that cash amounting to $2,000 and RM$400 (S$133) was also missing.

After the report, officers from Tanglin Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and subsequently established the suspect's identity.

He was arrested at Jalan Sultan in the early hours of Sep 3 - within 10 hours from the time the case was reported.

The wrist watch was subsequently recovered.

The suspect will be charged in Court on Sep 4 for the offence of Theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, and the suspect may also be fined.
