Man arrested after 12th-floor fire in Choa Chu Kang block; 40 people evacuated

SINGAPORE - A 45-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in relation to a fire in a Choa Chu Kang flat earlier in the day.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were notified of the fire on the 12th-floor unit of Block 688A at Choa Chu Kang Drive, just past 7.40pm.

Both the owner of the affected unit, as well as its tenants, had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived at the location.

Firefighters then evacuated some 40 people on the 12th, 13th and 14th floors of the block.

The fire was extinguished using one water jet. No one was injured in the fire, said the SCDF. Witnesses were reported to have heard explosions coming from the burning unit.

The police said they later arrested a man in relation to the fire, without giving further details. Both the police and SCDF are investigating the incident.
