Man arrested for assaulting, attempting to rob cabby

SINGAPORE - A 22-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to rob a taxi driver and assaulting him in the wee hours of the morning on July 1.

The suspect was picked up as a passenger by the victim at around 2.45am at Telok Blangah Heights.

During the journey, the suspect kept changing his mind about where he wanted to go. He then used a charging device to hit the taxi driver on the head. He fled when the taxi driver stopped his vehicle.

The suspect was arrested the next day at around 8.15pm at Telok Blangah Heights.

He will be charged in court on July 4 for attempted robbery with hurt. If convicted, he faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
