Man arrested for housebreaking and theft

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 26-year-old man who is believed to be involved in several housebreaking and theft-by-night cases in the Woodlands public housing estate.

Between August 23 and 26, 2013, police received several reports from victims who discovered their mobile phones missing from their residential units. In these cases, the victims had left their valuables within reach from the common corridors.

Following the reports, officers conducted enquiries and established the identity of the suspect. He was arrested on Sept 5 at about 12:10 pm along Woodlands Ring Road. He is believed to be involved in at least five cases of theft.

The suspect will be charged in Court on Sept 7, 2013 for the offence of housebreaking and theft-by-night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years and a fine.
