Man arrested for performing obscene act in public

SINGAPORE - A 42-year-old man was arrested by the police early this morning for performing an obscene act and for fraudulent possession at Jurong West Street 93.

At 2.18am today, the police received a call from a 24-year-old female victim stating that a male subject had committed an obscene act at Jurong West Street 93. Police officers from Jurong Police Division responded to the incident and arrested the male suspect.

Three handphones, 1 cashcard and 5 adults Ez-link cards were found in his possession which were believed to be fraudulently obtained and seized as case exhibits.

Investigation against the male suspect is ongoing.

Anyone who does any Obscene Act in any Public Place, punishable under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, on conviction shall be liable to an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 months, or with fine, or with both.

Under Section 35 (1) of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act, Chapter 184, any person who has in his possession or conveys in any manner anything which may be reasonably suspected of being stolen or fraudulently obtained shall, if he fails to account satisfactorily how he came by the same, be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wilson Lim reminds the public that if they encounter such situations, to remain calm and note down the distinguishing features of the culprit and inform the police as soon as it is safe to do so.

The police will not hesitate to take firm action against such persons to ensure the safety of the public.
