Man arrested for series of housebreaking and theft cases in Chinatown

The police have arrested a 47-year-old man who is believed to be involved series of housebreaking in Chinatown.

On Friday morning, the police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a restaurant along Smith Street.

The owner of restaurant discovered that $265 in cash was missing from the cash register that had been pried open.

After conducting conducted ground enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage, officers from the Central Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Temple Street at about 4.30pm on the same day.

The police also seized $28 in cash from the suspect, which is believed to be part of the stolen money.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in at least four other cases of housebreaking and theft in Chinatown.

If convicted, the suspect will face a jail term of up to 10 years.
