Man arrested for theft from vehicles

SINGAPORE - A 48-year-old man believed to be involved in two cases of theft from vehicle was arrested by the police on Thursday morning.

In the first case, a male victim who parked overnight at the a multi-storey carpark in the vicinity of Bukit Merah Central found the right rear passenger window of his car smashed and his black bag containing his laptop and related accessories missing when he returned to his car early on Wednesday morning.

Similarly, in the second case, a female victim who parked in the same carpark discovered that the right rear passenger window of her vehicle was smashed and her black cosmetic box was missing. The case was reported on Wednesday afternoon.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect.

The suspect was arrested at 10.50am on Thursday in the vicinity of Tiong Bahru Road.

A laptop and related accessories were found in his possession. One screwdriver, one pair of scissors and one torchlight were also seized from the suspect.

The suspect will be charged in court on Saturday for theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code. He faces a maximum imprisonment term of 3 years, or a fine, or both.
