Man beats 'prostitute' wife to death

A woman in Fuzhou city, China, was allegedly beaten to death with the back of a knife by her husband.

He suspected that his wife, Ms Zheng, 35, was a prostitute in Singapore.

Police in the Chinese province of Fujian were alerted to the attack at about 3am on Monday and Ms Zheng was taken to the local hospital.

According to reports by Chinese news website www.fjsen. com, Ms Zheng was working in Singapore since last year, but her husband suspected that she was prostituting herself instead and repeatedly questioned her about it.

Ms Zheng returned to Fuzhou in July this year.

Reports quoted relatives of the couple as saying that they used to quarrel often, but they did not expect something like this to happen, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The husband was allegedly drinking heavily before the murder.

The autopsy showed that Ms Zheng died of head and brain injuries.

After realising that his wife was dead, he fled the hospital and surrendered himself to the authorities.

It is not known whether the man has been charged.
