Man caught on CCTV stealing from sailor's car

KAJANG - A man who has been living in a rented Perodua Myvi for at least a month was arrested by police after he was caught on closed circuit television (CCTV) footage stealing a computer and other accessories from a sailor's car.

District police chief Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said the 40-year-old sailor, who was attached with the Malaysian Maritime Academy in Malacca, had parked his Proton Wira at the Serdang rest area at around 9.30am on Jan 5.

"The sailor made a stop at the rest area to buy stuff from the petrol station," he added.

It was only after arriving in Malacca that the sailor noticed his computer and other accessories missing from the trunk of his car.

"He made his way back to the petrol station and requested to see the CCTV footage."

ACP Ab Rashid said police tracked down the car owner, who claimed that he had rented out the Myvi to the suspect for RM1,009 (S$376.9) a month.

Police found the suspect sleeping in the Myvi by the roadside in Serdang at about 11pm on Sunday.
