JOHOR BARU - A company manager and his girlfriend have been charged with the murder of his three-year-old son.
The accused, Mohd Imran Mohd Ramly, 31, and Norhidayah Mamid, 27, allegedly committed the offence at A-22 Apartment Sri Putra, Jalan Meranti 7, Bandarputra, Kulai in Johor here between midnight on Dec 16 and 6.45pm on Dec 19.
They were charged at the magistrate's court here with intentionally murdering Muhammad Aqeef Adam Mohd Imran.
Both the accused only nodded their heads in acknowledgement that they understood the charge when it was read out to them by a court interpreter here yesterday.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34.
The couple face the mandatory death sentence if found guilty.
No plea was recorded.
Magistrate Salina Omar set Feb 5 for next mention pending forensic and post-mortem reports.
DPP Dzul Iswari Mohd Jaafar prosecuted while the accused were unrepresented.
It is learnt that the victim was sent to the emergency unit of the Kulai Hospital at around 7.30pm on Dec 19 last year and the doctor attending to him noticed multiple bruises on his body.
Post-mortem reports revealed that the boy may have died from long-term physical abuse.
