Man found dead at the foot of Boon Lay block as fire raged in his unit

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted at 2.15am and arrived to find a man lying motionless at the foot of Block 177, Boon Lay Drive.

According to the SCDF, two calls were received in the wee hours of Monday morning about the incident.

The first call at about 2.15am, was on the case of a fall from height, said the spokesperson.

A 53-year-old Chinese man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics when they arrived.

Another call was received at 2.17am concerning the fire at a unit on the 10th floor. The fire involved a mattress in the living room of the 1-room flat.

According to the spokesperson, the SCDF dispatched two fire engines, a red rhino and three support vehicles, which arrived within six minutes of the call.

The fire was extinguished after officers forced their way into the flat, and the case has been handed over to the Singapore Police Force for further investigations.
