Man hangs upside-down from railings after leaping from Yishun corridor, saved by 5 residents

A man leapt from the 10th storey and was left dangling upside-down for more than five minutes after his left foot became caught on the railings on the 9th floor.

Fortunately, he was pulled to safety by five residents.

The incident happened at Block 137 Yishun Ring Road yesterday (Nov 20) at around 9am.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the 55-year-old man had jumped from the corridor on the 10th storey, but got his foot got caught on the railing on the 9th floor.

One of the residents, Mr Wu, 55, told reporters that he was preparing to head to the market for his breakfast when he suddenly heard a loud bang.

He recounted his experience:

"I went to investigate the source of the sound.

"When I reached the corridor, I saw a foot caught on the railing."

Mr Wu immediately ran forward and grabbed the man's left leg, but found it physically taxing.

"I weigh about 50kg, but the man was about 1.8 metres in height and weighed around 80kg, so I was afraid that I would not be able to support his weight.

"I shouted for help."

He added that although he knew that he was in danger of falling as well, his first reaction was to save the man, and he did not have time for hesitation.

Four residents subsequently came over to help.

One of the four had rushed up from the ground floor after realising that something was amiss.

The group took about five to six minutes before they finally managed to pull the man back into the corridor.

In response to media queries, a police spokesman confirmed the incident and said that it was alerted to a case of attempted suicide on Nov 20.
