Man held for cough syrup theft

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man believed to be involved in breaking into a clinic in the vicinity of Commonwealth Drive.

On Saturday, around 8.40am, a case of housebreaking was reported at the clinic. Several bottles of cough mixture worth a total of about $300 were stolen.

The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 5 at 5.20pm on Monday.

He will be charged today with housebreaking and theft by night.

If convicted, he can be jailed up to 14 years.

In a statement on Tuesday, the commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, advised the owners of commercial and business premises to install strong locks and grills, good security systems and alarms to prevent break-ins.
