Man investigated for making false police report

SINGAPORE - A man who claimed to be a robbery victim is being investigated by the police for making a false police report.

At about 1pm on Monday, Nov 25, the 32-year-old suspect went to Nanyang Neighbourhood Police Centre to lodge a Police report stating that he was a victim of robbery in the early morning of Nov 24.

According to a statement from the police, the man provided sketchy details with regard to the alleged crime, raising the suspicions of the police officer who interviewed him.

Upon further questioning, the suspect eventually admitted that he had fabricated the story of the alleged robbery in a bid to facilitate the early termination of his work contract.

Investigation into this case is ongoing.

Anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.
