Man jailed for attacking wife's lover with scissors

The Chinese national was at home with his wife when he found out she was seeing another man.

Upset, Fan Jianfeng, 34, insisted on confronting his wife's lover on Oct 12.

Madam Lui Shu Dan, 27, agreed to take her husband to meet her lover, Mr Liu Wei, 24.

Madam Lui and Mr Liu were colleagues at a factory. Both are Chinese nationals.

HIDDEN

The married couple took a train to Lakeside MRT station, where Fan went to a 7-Eleven store, bought a pair of 17cm-long scissors and hid it on himself.

They had arranged to meet Mr Liu at the void deck of Block 519, Jurong West Street 52, where he was staying.

When Mr Liu appeared about half an hour later, at 10pm, Fan charged at him with the scissors. He stabbed Mr Liu repeatedly until the younger man collapsed.

The police and an ambulance were called and Mr Liu was taken to National University Hospital.

Mr Liu had at least nine injuries, including on the neck, left forearm, his back and the right of his chest.

After he was discharged, he was given 36 days of medical leave.

Fan yesterday pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt. In mitigation, he said through an interpreter that he had come from a broken family and that his wife had been his only family since his mother died.

He said that finding out about his wife's affair was "a bad dream". He added that he wanted to get out of prison and be a good example to his son, whom he has not seen in a year.

District Judge Christopher Goh sentenced Fan to one year in prison and three strokes of the cane.
