The Magistrates' Court yesterday sentenced a man to serve six months in jail after he was convicted of using his house as a brothel.

Defendant Sohaili Hj Matali, 54, claimed trial last year to the charge of allowing his house in STKRJ Kg Sg Buloh to be used as a brothel some time in November 2013.

Sohaili was convicted last month when the presiding magistrate Azrimah Hj Abd Rahman delivered a guilty verdict on the case.

It was previously reported that Sohaili claimed trial on grounds that he denied to have been an occupant of the house as he rarely stays there and that he is unaware of the activities there.

However, magistrate Azrimah Hj Abd Rahman ruled in favour of the prosecution's case and found that Sohaili is an occupant of the house; that the defendant had knowingly permitted the use of his premises as a brothel, and; that the premises was used a brothel.

Among the witnesses called by the prosecution were two Indonesian women who, in the period of two months, had rented the room for $10 each time they provided prostitution services to customers.

The prosecution witnesses told the court that the defendant would often be at the house.
