Man leaves 500m trail of blood after quarrel

SINGAPORE- After a quarrel at home, a man left a bloody trail from his fifth-storey flat at Commonwealth Close to a bus stop about 500m away.

The flat he left was in a mess, with a TV set on the living room floor and broken glass everywhere.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, apparently quarrelled with a woman on Sunday morning before leaving the flat at about 10.50am with his left leg cut and bloodied by glass pieces.

An unnamed resident from the opposite block told Shin Min Daily News that the man could be seen limping from his block to a bus stop 500m away.

The man was later taken back to his flat by the police.

There were differing accounts of who the man had quarrelled with.

A next-door neighbour, who wanted to be known as Mr Tan, 60, told Shin Min that he could hear the man and another woman, believed to be his girlfriend, quarrelling from 9am on Sunday morning.

MESS

Startled by the sound of glass breaking, Mr Tan rushed out of his flat and peeked into his neighbour's flat. He saw a huge mess in their living room and a shattered TV set on the floor.

Shin Min also reported that the man was believed to be drunk that morning.

However, another neighbour on the same storey, who wanted to be known as Mr Chan, 80, told The New Paper that the man was not arguing with his girlfriend but with his mother, believed to be in her 60s.

The retiree said: "I heard from another neighbour that the son smashed the TV on the floor, cutting his left leg."

Mr Chan said the family has been living there for more than 30 years and he has watched the man grow up over the years.

He understands that the man, who is jobless, lives with his parents. His sister and his niece visit occasionally.

When TNP visited the block yesterday afternoon, there were no signs of blood left in the corridor, the lift or on the pavement to the bus stop.

The police said they received a call at 10.51am on Sunday and the man was taken to Alexandra Hospital.

Residents said the police stayed at the scene for at least six hours, collecting items in the flat, before leaving.

Police investigations are ongoing.
