KUALA SELANGOR, Malaysia - A 32-year-old man tolerated his wife's verbal and physical abuse for six months before finally lodging a police report against her.

Harian Metro reported that the man, who only wanted to be known as Borhan, fell victim to domestic abuse after he lost his job and was no longer able to provide for his family.

"My wife punched and kicked me almost every day until my body was full of bruises. There was once she punched me in my face and my nose bled profusely," said the father of two from Kuala Selangor.

Borhan said he had been ashamed to tell anyone about his plight, but decided to lodge the police report after suffering six months of bodily abuse.

"We began fighting every day because I could not afford to pay the bills. She used harsh words against me, calling me a useless man.

"She was never physically aggressive towards me until I lost my job," he added.

Things got worse from there, said Borhan, as his wife started beating him.

"I then took on odd jobs but it was not enough. Her parents and family would always defend her and get involved when I tried to defend myself," he said.

Borhan has been living separately from his wife for the past two months.
