MALAYSIA - A man stabbed his friend with a 15cm knife and set the boat they were in on fire after he lost his cool over the constant engine failure they had suffered.
Harian Metro reported that the victim, Madal, 40, was stabbed in the head, chest and right hand but escaped from his attacker by jumping into the sea in the 11pm incident in Anjung Senja, Kota Kinabalu, on Sunday.
Another victim, Benjerald Lajarun, 19, the son of the boat owner, also managed to jump into the sea after he was beaten up by the suspect.
Benjerald said he was resting when he heard Madal and the 23-year-old suspect arguing over the cause of the engine problems.
"Suddenly, I heard a splash and saw Madal floating in the water, while the suspect came towards me and we struggled.
"I jumped into the sea to save myself," he said, adding that he saw Madal bleeding profusely and dragged him to shore.
He then heard several loud explosions and saw the boat on fire.
Kota Kinabalu city police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said marine police caught the suspect trying to escape by swimming to safety.
