IPOH - Police moved in fast to catch a man who abducted and molested a nine-year-old pupil near a cemetery along Jalan Slim Lama in Slim River, about 100km from here.
A description of the suspect given by the victim's sister enabled police to catch him after a car chase.
The man had coaxed the girl into his grey Proton Wira Aeroback at about 1.30pm by promising to buy her school books near the Slim River bus station on Wednesday.
Once she got into the car, he warned her not to run away and drove to the cemetery, where he instructed her to go to a nearby hut, Tanjung Malim OCPD Supt Othman Nayan said yesterday.
"The suspect told the girl to take off her pants and shoes before molesting her.
"A few minutes later, he fled, leaving the girl on her own," he added.
Supt Othman said a passing motorist saw the terrified girl running away at about 1.50pm and stopped to check on her before bringing her to the Slim River police station.
"The family, including the girl's 43-year-old father, has been informed of the incident.
"The girl has been taken to the Slim River Hospital where doctors confirmed that she has not been raped," Supt Othman said.
The victim's 12-year-old sister, who was nearby when the suspect drove away with the girl, gave police a description of the man and his car.
Supt Othman said the man was arrested in Taman Desa Idaman Sungkai at about 2.30pm after a 20km car chase from Slim River to a housing area.
"He refused to stop and fled when we detected and approached his car in the Slim River town centre.
"He sped northwards and rammed through the tollgate at Sungkai and into a Proton Exora.
"We finally cornered him in the residential area with the help of the Tanjung Malim CID and a motorcycle patrol unit from Slim River," he added.
Police found a woman and a boy, believed to be his wife and son, in the car.
The man has been remanded for four days while the case is being investigated under Section 363 and 354 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and molesting.
