A man who was picked up for a drunken brawl on Saturday confessed to two murders after mistakenly assuming that he was nabbed by police for the murders, subsequently leading to the arrest of six people.
Four members of a family and two others were arrested for the murder of two people over property worth several millions of rupees over a six-month period, reported Malaysia Nanban.
Police had picked up Dosai Kumar, 31, for his involvement in a drunken brawl near a liquor outlet in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. But before they could question him, he confessed to a murder by telling the police that he had disposed the body of a 37-year-old man D. Mani in Sembarambakkam Lake near Nazarathpet.
The body was recovered from the lake on Aug 26, following which the police had registered a case of suspicious death and sent it for a postmortem. Kumar also told police that he had murdered Mani's father Devarajan, 65, in March for a sum of Rs1 lakh (RM5,210).
All along, Devarajan's family members had claimed that he died of heart attack. Police are now accusing Devarajan's wife Bhavani, daughter Bharathi, son Thyagarajan and Bharathi's husband Selvam, of plotting Devarajan's death.
