Man pins down thief who tried to steal his handphone outside Boon Lay MRT station

A snatch thief who stole a handphone was caught and pinned to the ground by his victim outside Boon Lay MRT station.

The incident happened at around 4.40pm today (May 18).

According to Stomp reader Marcus, the man had tried to steal a handphone from a passerby.

Marcus recounted what he saw in a phone interview with Stomp:

"I was exiting the MRT station and heard a man shouting.

"When I went to check out what had happened, I saw a man, believed to be the victim, pinning a man clad in a grey shirt on the ground.

"A crowd then started to form around the pair and everyone was staring at them but the victim continued pinning him to the ground."

Marcus added that an SMRT then came and asked what had happened.

He also asked if anyone had called the police and it was clear that they had already informed the authorities.

"After talking to the SMRT officer, the victim stopped pinning him to the ground and stood up.

This time a man clad in a white shirt, took over and pinned the thief to the ground," Marcus said.

He also mentioned that the victim and the man in white brought the man over to the MRT station.

"I think they all went to the management office," Marcus said.
