SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old man has been arrested by the police for attempted robbery with hurt.
On Sep 24 at around 6.05am, the suspect targeted a 66-year-old woman who was walking along Banda Street in Chinatown.
Approaching the victim from behind, he attempted to grab her bag but the elderly woman held on it and as a consequence, she received a punch from him.
Despite the hurt, the 66-year-old still held on to her bag and the suspect fled the scene, in an unknown direction and empty-handed.
The victim notified the police and after ground investigations, officers from Central Police Division arrested the man on Sep 26, in the vicinity of Yishun Ave 11.
He will appear in court on Sep 27. If convicted, he faces a jail term up to 20 years and shall be liable to caning.
